Pharmaceutical companies in Greece followed a steady upward trend in the 2018-2020 three-year period, showing an increase of 4.3% in 2020 compared to 2019, while in 2021 it is estimated that the trend will continue its upward trajectory.

According to Panagiotis Manetas, Consultant of Financial-Sectorial Studies Division at ICAP CRIF, who supervised the study, an important role for the growth of this market was played by the long-term increase in hospital pharmaceutical expenditure since 2016.

Stamatina Pantelaiou, Director of Financial Sector Studies at ICAP CRIF, stated that the degree of concentration in the industry is relatively high, as the five (5) and ten (10) largest companies account for 32% and 47% of total drugs sales, respectively.
