The ESG global digital platform: Sustainability information through self-assessment

Synesgy is a global digital platform for assessing ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) sustainability. It is used by a wide range of stakeholders, from companies worldwide sharing their ESG performance to supply chain managers evaluating their supplier base, as well as financial institutions assessing ESG-related risks and opportunities.

The platform collects data through a self-assessment questionnaire completed by each company. This information is then processed to generate an ESG Score, a certificate, benchmarking and a customized action plan. These outputs help companies understand their sustainability KPIs, share their performance with peers, and enhance their attractiveness in the market.

ESG audit and assessment solutions

Synesgy enables companies to self-assess their sustainability practices, identify strengths and areas for improvement, and take practical steps towards a sustainable transition.

The platform offers easy, direct and global access, without losing sight of local requirements. The questionnaire is available in more than 21 languages and is adapted to the regulatory and business context of each country.

The Synesgy scoring model developed by CRIF Ratings (which will be certified by CRIF Synesgy Ratings in the future) makes it easy to understand the scores obtained in the five main sections of the questionnaire: Business, Environmental, Social, Governance and Sector.

There is also an integrated GHG calculator — aligned with international standards — that companies can use to estimate and track carbon emissions, together with guided navigation, multilingual support, and an app that facilitates ESG performance sharing, especially for SMEs and site-based operations.

In 2024, CRIF obtained a Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) license thanks to Synesgy’s compliance with GRI standards.

Companies that undergo an ESG assessment gain a wide range of benefits and can quickly develop a competitive advantage over those who have not yet taken part.

Below are some of the key benefits offered by the Synesgy ESG assessment:

  • The survey effectively translates business information into ESG data, acting as a structured categorization tool.
  • The GHG calculator estimates carbon emissions using just a few simple questions.
  • A certificate confirming that the company has completed the sharing process and displaying its ESG Score.
  • An action plan that provides guidance to improve ESG performance.
  • A downloadable report containing a descriptive summary of ESG performance, similar to a sustainability report (available only in certain geographies).
  • The MySynesgy app (available for Android and Apple devices) enables Synesgy clients to share their certificate and score and stay up to date with the latest ESG news.
  • Company data can sometimes resemble a jumbled pile of puzzle pieces; the Synesgy ESG Assessment brings them together into a coherent picture, acting as an effective solution for clarity and insight.

At the same time, Synesgy users avoid the complexity of setting up an end-to-end process to collect structured data from suppliers or customers.

Solution Details

The most important tool is the questionnaire: a key instrument in Synesgy®'s success, which is based on timely and strict compliance with global ESG market regulations.
Overall, the questionnaire is based on a two-tiered approach:

  • A core version with questions referring to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and focusing on the Business side on Environmental, Social and Governance principles.
  • An industry-specific section based on the sector the company belongs to.

Support and consultancy are always guaranteed along the journey in every country CRIF operates in.

Customer care is geared towards working with the client at every stage of the process, from understanding ESG principles to filling in the questionnaire to obtain a certificate.

The final result is an overall score developed by CRIF and authorized by its credit rating agency, as well as the scores obtained in the five main sections of the questionnaire: Business, Environmental, Social, Governance and Sector.

The Synesgy® certificate is valid for 12 months; upon expiry, or whenever necessary, a new assessment should be carried out.
