Nassau, January 24, 2020

On January 24, 2020, at the British Colonial Hilton in Nassau, CRIF held a kick-off event to officially launch the local credit bureau project, which CRIF fully owns and manages.

During the event, CRIF presented the onboarding process for Credit Information Providers, which will allow the credit bureau to be up and running by the end of 2020.

The main speakers included, The Hon. Peter Turnquest, Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Finance of The Bahamas, John Rolle, Governor at the Central Bank of The Bahamas, Karen Rolle, Deputy Inspector at the Central Bank of The Bahamas, Lasonya Missick, Chairperson at the Clearing Banks Association, and Hilton Bowleg, President of the Bahamas Co-operative League.

All banks, credit unions, money lenders, and insurance companies of the Bahamas attended the event, together with the Bahamas Development Bank and the Mortgage Corporation, the Securities Commission, and the Insurance Commission of The Bahamas.

An important step has been taken today toward a new and more advanced credit culture in the country. CRIF’s goal is to provide financial institutions with reliable information in order to take the best lending decisions, and, on the other hand, help both consumers and businesses to improve their credit access and ultimately their financial wellness.”

The CRIF team taking part in the project launch comprised Pietro Nardi and Giovanni Bonaccio (CRIF International Market unit), Alessio Milani and Anastasia Zappacosta (CRIF Credit Bureau Delivery unit), and Robert Gordon, Chief Operating Officer at CRIF Information Bureau Jamaica.
